Bandonions continued to be built in the Volkseigener Betrieb (VEB) (Peoples own factory), but could not match the quality products of the expropriated private companies. These had been incorporated into the state-owned enterprise and were called the "Factory 1, Factory 2 etc." centrally managed and administered.
Although the planned and shortage economy did not flood the market with consumer goods, in the GDR it was often possible to set accents of design.

The keyboard system of the standard bandonion was produced from 1924 onwards at the suggestion of the German Concertina and Bandonion Association and aimed at standardising the many several tone systems.
The first sample was made by the bandonion maker Wilhelm König from Berlin. He gave plans and sample components to interested manufacturers free of charge, in order to spreading of this system as far as possible.
However, comparatively few players made the desired switch to this instrument.

By means of push-buttons (white), five registers can be switched on this side. However, these are an optional extra.
The term Einheitsbandonion (Unit bandonion) refers to the new keyboard system, which from an tone stock of 100 tones onwards had changes in tone assignment and keyboard layout.
